Edmonton International Airport – Park & Ride
Nisku, Alberta

In April 2009, Barr Ryder Architects was commissioned to provide architectural and interior design consulting services for the Park & Ride Conversion project at the Edmonton International Airport.

The scope of this project was to provide facilities that would further enhance, improve and expand the parking options for the airport customer.

The program for the new Park & Ride concept included:
• A valet/check-in/bag drop building with amenities
• 3 heated bus shelters

The new facilities provide airport customers with easy convenient access to a variety of parking and customer service options.

The new valet/check-in building is designed to accommodate personalized valet parking and passenger bus drop off and pick up, and airline and baggage services.

In addition to the valet/check-in facility, three heated bus shelters have been designed and are strategically located throughout the new 4,000 stall parking lot. The bus shelters are fully enclosed heated facilities allowing customers to comfortably wait for transportation to the terminal, check-in and electronically pay for parking.

Architecturally, all four structures are tied together with the same sophisticated, organic forms and detailing. The forms and materials selected for these facilities are intended to visually highlight the buildings for clear identification and contrast the starkness of the parking area.
