Leduc Lifestyles Westhaven
Leduc, Alberta
Barr Ryder Architects having worked with Carrington Construction on several multi-family facilities in the Edmonton area and in 2007, were asked to assist in the design of the newest assisted living facility to be constructed in Leduc, Alberta.
The new Leduc Lifestyles Westhaven Facility was to be designed to respond to two emerging demands in seniors’ facilities – lifestyle seniors’ suites and facilities for the care of seniors afflicted with dementia.
The main floor of the facility was primarily designed to accommodate the Dementia Assisted Living (DAL) suites. The DAL suites were developed in two wings of the facility. Each DAL wing was comprised of a number of individual suites, social areas, therapy spaces, nursing stations and other administrative and support areas. Separating the two DAL wings is a common lobby, general and private dining areas, amenity space and other support areas. Exterior social and exercise areas were developed on the main floor level specifically for the DAL residents.
The upper three stories of the Leduc Lifestyles facility are dedicated to seniors’ condominiums. Several configurations and sizes of suites were developed offering a variety of living options for seniors. In support of the residential suites, the facility contains a variety of lounges, exercise areas, amenity areas, social and service spaces.
The building was carefully detailed and materials selected to complement the surrounding environment and welcome residents.
This project was completed in December 2009.
