Enterprise Square (University Downtown), 3rd & 4th Floors – TEC Edmonton
TEC Edmonton is developed as a key component of the Enterprise Square for the University of Alberta. The Enterprise Square involves the complete restoration and renovation of the historic Bay Building on Jasper Avenue in Edmonton. In addition, a number of Continuing Education and other faculties related to community outreach are located in the Enterprise Square. The University of Alberta chose to incorporate space for TEC Edmonton on the upper level of the four storey complex.
TEC Edmonton is a joint venture between the City of Edmonton and the University of Alberta to assist in the development of commercialization of research carried out by the University of Alberta. The space provides highly flexible lab and research-oriented space for startup companies who are taking University oriented research into its first phases of commercialization. This unique approach allows a physical opportunity for a variety of lab sizes to be developed to meet the particular needs of each of the new commercial ventures.
The TEC Edmonton space surrounds the main atrium through the Enterprise Square core, and its flexible space allows a wide variety of lab and research area sizes and configurations. The space is also highly adaptable taking into account the growth of the commercial ventures and their eventual move out to larger space once the early stages of research development have been completed. Space is also developed on the same floor for the offices of TEC Edmonton to ensure that the support structures for the new commercial ventures are provided on the same level to assist in their further growth.
